Protect the Red Cliffs NCA from an unnecessary and destructive highway

Washington County wants the City of St. George, and other municipalities in the county, to pass resolutions supporting a Congressional bill to allow a highway through prime tortoise habitat in the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area/Desert Reserve.  This bill is being sold as a way to jump-start the stalled renewal of the Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP).  But renewing the HCP does not require or need Congressional action.  In face, the proposed bill is an attempt bypass the NEPA public process and ignore the protections afforded to the threatened Mojave Desert Tortoise under the Endangered Species Act.  Share your view of this proposed bill and the resolution supporting with St. George Mayor Jon Pike and city council members.
