Desert Tortoise Burrow Surveying
March 23 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Volunteers are needed for walking surveys in the Beaver Dam Wash National Conservation Area to document locations of desert tortoise burrows to monitor for tortoise activity. This will require hiking over uneven terrain for 1-2 miles and documenting locations on data sheets and with the Avenza maps phone app. We may also possibly service or set up monitoring cameras that are in proximity to our survey area. Signups are required to attend at this link: https://forms.gle/yrCfg1BJ4SeXNLaX6
Project volunteers will meet and leave from the Fire Lake/Ivins Reservoir parking lot closest to Old Hwy 91 or from the Terrible’s/Chevron at I-15 and Sun River Pkwy. We will carpool but it may require driving your vehicle about 65 miles roundtrip from the St George area; up to 5 miles will be over a graded dirt road, suitable for most vehicles, off of old Highway 91. Project days will take from 4-5 hours, including driving time.
