Desert Tortoise Week – October 3-7, 2022

Desert Tortoise Week is all about appreciating this iconic desert species. The desert tortoise was added to the list of Threatened and Endangered Species in 1990, and its recovery depends on public committment to the protection of its remaining habitat. You can help this charismatic reptile by participating in one of the St. George-area events hosted by Conserve Southwest Utah, the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area (BLM), Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, and Snow Canyon State Park. See the full list of events here:

Desert Tortoise Habitat Restoration – Wednesday October 5th from 9 am to 12 pm.

Help us revive critical Mojave desert tortoise habitat scorched by wildfire in the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. We’re putting new food and shelter plants in the ground for the desert tortoise in 2022, but first we need to pull the last of the chicken wire cages that protected the 2020 plants!

RSVP for Habitat Restoration here.
