On Earth Day 2022, more than fifty high school students from Utah Arts Academy learned how to use art as a tool for public lands advocacy. CSU brought the 2022 Earth Day theme, Invest in Our Planet, home to the red rock by offering these students an Art & Advocacy program in honor of the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area (NCA).
We explored the intersection of art and advocacy in campaigns to protect public lands, examining works by artists like Thomas Moran, Terry Tempest Williams, Stephen Trimble and the local advocates who contributed to the Red Cliffs Zine.
Art is a powerful tool for participating in conversations about land and ethics, for rousing citizens to action and for influencing decision makers! Please see all the student Earth Day art here!
