Wildlife Monitoring Project
June 3 @ 7:00 am - 11:00 am

Volunteers are needed to service wildlife cameras that are in and near the Woodbury Desert Study Area of the Beaver Dam Wash National Conservation Area! Meeting location and time will be displayed when you sign-up at this link: https://forms.gle/saC4VHbTUUFaBAba8
Tasks include retrieving photographic data cards from a subset of cameras, installing fresh AA batteries and data cards, ensuring camera and tripod operation and stability, and looking for signs of desert tortoise activity along your hiking route. This will require hiking over uneven terrain for 1-2 miles, typically to service 4-6, or up to 10 cameras, depending on your desire of involvement.
Plan for 4-5 hours, including driving time, to service 4-5 cameras. Recommended to hike/work with another person; CSU will arrange for a field partner.
Note: Camera servicing will be performed around the 5th, 15th and 25th day of each month. As the months progress, the camera stewards may head out as early in the day as desired to beat the heat. If you have not received training from Stewardship Coordinator Fred Armstrong, he can train you or pair you up with another trained volunteer.
