Latino Conservation Week 2022

Latino Conservation Week (LCW) events celebrate the connection Latinos have to the enjoyment and preservation of the outdoors. Events organized by Conserve Southwest Utah aim to connect Washington County’s Latinx community to the natural resources protected in the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area (NCA) and Desert Reserve. All activities are free and open to everyone. Anyone who wants to support Latino Conservation Week in St. George is welcome to attend!

Monday, July 18th from 6 to 8 pm
We’re hosting a Native Flora Workshop and Potting Party at the Tonaquint Nature Center to kick of Latino Conservation Week! Learn about desert-friendly native plant species from a Latinx Greenhouse Manager and leave with your own potted plant to brighten your home or yard. 1851 S. Dixie Drive.
Tuesday, July 19th from 10 am to 12 pm
The St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site is offering a private tour of the Dino Museum for Latino Conservation Week! Come explore an Early Jurassic ecosystem complete with dinosaurs, plants, fishes, and more. Let them tell you the story of Earth and St. George’s ancient past. New signs in Spanish. Food truck(s) will be on site with free treats! 2180 East Riverside Drive.
Thursday, July 21st from 9 – 10:30 am
Bring the kids out to a Red Cliffs Summer Story and Craft Session in honor of Latino Conservation Week. Join us for nature stories in Spanish and English under a shady tree at the Brooks Nature Park. This activity includes a meet n’ greet with live desert animals from the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve and a tortoise-themed craft for each child. 452 North Main Street, St. George.
Friday, July 22nd from 3 to 5:30 pm
Beat the heat in the St. George Library and meet Tu-wee the Desert Tortoise, Charlie the King Snake and Hercules the Gila monster. These are the reptile celebrities, and endangered species ambassadors, of Red Cliffs. They’re here to take photos with the family and teach you how to protect their desert home. Enjoy tortoise trivia and games, and earn your badge to become a Certified Tortoise Defender.
Saturday, July 23rd from 10 to 11:30 am
Bring your bike and meet us at Sullivan Park for a Community Bikes and Bagels Ride along the beautiful Virgin River Trail. Free coffee and bagels and a bike safety talk to begin, then a family-friendly 5-mile roundtrip ride over gorgeous sections of boardwalk beside the Virgin River. Let us know if you need to borrow a bike! 956 S Washington Fields Road.
Saturday, July 23rd from 9:30 to 11:30 pm
Join us for a Fiesta de las Estrellas with refreshments at the Red Mountain Wilderness Trail Head. Learn about our galaxy by looking through a telescope with the St. George Astronomy Group. At the edge of the Red Mountain Wilderness in the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, the night skies will be dark and the stars will shine brightly!
