Wildlife Monitoring Cameras Servicing
July 20 @ 6:00 am - 10:30 am
Volunteers are needed to retrieve wildlife cameras that are in and near the Woodbury Desert Study Area of the Beaver Dam Wash National Conservation Area as we finish collecting data on Mojave desert tortoises. Each pair of workers will hike to 3-5 camera locations for up to 1 mile over uneven and sometimes rugged terrain. Experienced and novice workers will be paired and navigate to locations with the Avenza maps phone app. Project time including driving time is estimated to take about 4 hours. Expect to spend at least 3 hours in the direct sun. You will need to bring a day pack large enough for your drinking water, snacks, and with enough room to carry 2-3 cameras and tripods. You must sign up to participate. Sign up at this link https://forms.gle/2NtVMwwnneEPzzXV7
Where to Meet – Project volunteers will meet and leave from the Fire Lake/Ivins Reservoir parking lot closest to Old Hwy 91 or from the dirt lot west of the Terrible’s/Chevron near I-15 and Sun River Pkwy. We will carpool but it may require driving your vehicle about 65 miles roundtrip from the St George area; up to 5 miles will be over a graded dirt road off of old Highway 91.
